Next year, Modern Reformation magazine will celebrate its 30th year of publication! From its humble beginning as a newsletter produced from Michael Horton’s dorm room at Biola University in the 1980s, Modern Reformation magazine has grown into a nationally-recognized brand known for applying the riches of the Reformation to issues facing the modern church. Our longevity in an era of rapidly changing media is a testimony to God’s grace and the dedicated support of many subscribers and friends, like you.
Recently, our board of directors has determined to reinvest in Modern Reformation, making it the must-read magazine for thinking Christians. Even in an age of information overload, we believe that there is a need for a magazine that equips thinking Christians to engage issues of faith and culture from a classically Protestant perspective.
The first step was to hire a new full-time Executive Editor who will work with Michael Horton, our Editor in Chief, to develop, implement, and oversee an actionable editorial plan for the purpose of creating sound and engaging theological content. I am pleased to announce that after a six-month process, we have hired Joshua Schendel to serve as our next Executive Editor.
Joshua is a Ph.D. candidate in Theology at St. Louis University. He also holds an M.A. degree from Westminster Seminary California and a B.A. in Philosophy and Latin from Calvin College. His dissertation is entitled, “’A Learned Dispute Among Friends’: William Twisse and John Owen on the Necessity of the Christ’s Satisfaction.” In addition to his academic work, Joshua is pursuing ordination in the Presbyterian Church in America, has written regularly for the online magazine Conciliar Post, and has even run his own carpentry business! He is a husband and father. Pray for him as he defends his dissertation this spring and relocates with his family to southern California in the early summer.
